Immerse yourself in the mountain winter.

A throwback to the wild winters of bygone days. Soft snow clinging to nature like a protective blanket. The sunlight sparkling merrily on the white landscape. That’s what winter’s like in our beautiful Vent: natural and authentic. Thanks to its high-Alpine location at 1,880 metres above sea level, an unspoilt snowy paradise extends out around our mountaineering village, between some of the loftiest mountain peaks in the Alps. The opportunities? Endless. Just like the freedom that you’ll discover in Ötztal’s nature. Winter holidays in Tyrol are both relaxing and energising.

Winter hike Vent – Ramolalm

approx. 3 hours | max. elevation 2,300m

For this easy hike, set off on the “Rund um Vent” (Around Vent) trail wearing snowshoes or sturdy footwear. Follow the trail through the snowy pine forest, past frozen ponds and icy streams, accompanied by the merry calls of the nutcrackers. Once you’re above the tree line, the view opens right up: Spiegelkogel, Similaun, Talleitspitze, and Wildspitze stand before you in all their mighty glory. Continue along the rest of the trail to Ramolalm, which is no longer open for business. From there, if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of chamois on the rock faces or bearded vultures and eagles circling in the sky above. Head back down via the same route.

Ski tour on Ötztaler Urkund

approx. 4-5 hours | max. elevation 3,556m

This moderately difficult ski tour on Ötztaler Urkund, a secondary summit of Wildspitze, requires Alpine experience. You begin in Vent and take either the Wildspitz lift and the Wildes Mannle chair lift to the Wildes Mannle mountain station (2,660m) or strap the skins to your skis at the bottom of the valley descent, from where you can follow the edge of the run up to the mountain station. From there, descend to the left on a slight diagonal until you reach 2,600m. After strapping on your skins, ascend in a northerly direction between the two moraines of Rofenkarferner glacier on the right-hand side until you reach the tongue of the glacier at approx. 3,000m. Keep right until you reach approx. 3,200m, where the glacier begins to level out. From there, continue your ascent to the northwest until you reach approx. 3,400m, and then continue to the west up to Urkundsattel (approx. 3,520m), where you’ll find the ski depot. Now continue on foot over the narrow ridge up Urkundkolm at 3,556m. Once you reach the summit, enjoy the awe-inspiring views of the mighty Wildspitze and the surrounding peaks before heading back down to the ski depot. Your descent follows approximately the same route as your ascent. Your reward for the challenging tour: magical swings through powder snow near the top and then through creamy firn further down.
